Position Title:
On-Call, Part-Time Plumber
Hourly Rate: $45.00 – $50.00 per hour
Status:
On-call, part-time (estimated 100–150 hours per year)
The Town of Manchester-by-the-Sea Department of Public Works is seeking qualified candidates for an on‑call, part‑time plumbing position. This role performs skilled plumbing work in Town buildings and facilities, addressing plumbing issues as they arise, completing small projects, and conducting annual preventative maintenance tasks. Work is need-based, and hours are not guaranteed.
Key ResponsibilitiesPerform skilled plumbing repairs, maintenance, and installations at Town facilities.
Address urgent plumbing issues, complete assigned projects, and perform routine preventative maintenance.
Collaborate with other Town departments to ensure the timely completion of work.
Plan work schedules, order materials and equipment from local distributors, and provide updates on project progress.
Qualifications/KnowledgeThorough understanding of Massachusetts General Laws related to plumbing.
Strong knowledge of facility maintenance, modern plumbing practices, methods, tools, and safety procedures.
AbilitiesManage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, while maintaining professional relationships with Town departments and colleagues.
Work independently and collaboratively to meet deadlines and support project completion.
SkillsExcellent problem‑solving abilities and effective use of tools and equipment.
Experience with hot water radiator/heating systems and possession of a gas fitter license are preferred but not required.
RequirementsMassachusetts Journeyman Plumbing License and five to seven years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Comprehensive knowledge of plumbing codes, policies, procedures, and work methods.
Valid driver’s license.
Ability to pass a CORI background check.
Providing personal tools and specialty equipment is preferred and negotiable.
Compensation & ScheduleHourly rate: $45.00–$50.00 per hour, depending on experience and tools provided.
Work assignments and schedules coordinated with the Facilities Manager.
Flexible scheduling available, including weekends and off‑hours, as needed.
