Mobile Diesel Technician II – Fleet Services by Cox Automotive

Duties
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections and follow‑up repairs on light, medium and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
  • Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment, including electrical, brake, cooling, starters/alternators, fan clutches, diesel steering, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
  • Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck systems using handheld computers, pressure gauges, and other test instruments.
  • Conduct road tests to verify repairs and ensure proper operation.
  • Manage parts inventory, perform periodic reconciliations, and purchase parts from approved vendors.
  • Maintain and operate the company‑issued service vehicle, performing safety checks and pre/post‑trip inspections.
  • Document work in Repair Orders (RO) using iOS devices and the TRAIT application, uploading pictures and parts used.
  • Work independently, manage daily schedule, and prioritize tasks to meet Standard Repair Times.
  • Communicate with management and support teams via email or phone for approvals, purchase order numbers, and RO findings.
  • Adhere to safety, health and environmental policies and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lift and jacks.
  • Obtain DOT forms, complete documentation timely, and maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain positive client relationships by listening to customers, assessing needs, and providing solutions.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma/GED plus 3 years of related experience. Alternative qualification: any level degree or certification beyond HS, or 5 years of experience.
  • Possess and supply necessary hand tools required for job duties.
  • Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within eighteen (18) months.
  • Pass DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening, DOT physical, or provide a DOT medical card with >4 months remaining.
  • Minimum age of 21 and a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Show capability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for extended periods; handle moderate heavy labor.
