Mobile Diesel Technician II – Fleet Services by Cox Automotive

Location:
Hopedale, MA
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections and follow‑up repairs on light, medium and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment, including electrical, brake, cooling, starters/alternators, fan clutches, diesel steering, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck systems using handheld computers, pressure gauges, and other test instruments.
- Conduct road tests to verify repairs and ensure proper operation.
- Manage parts inventory, perform periodic reconciliations, and purchase parts from approved vendors.
- Maintain and operate the company‑issued service vehicle, performing safety checks and pre/post‑trip inspections.
- Document work in Repair Orders (RO) using iOS devices and the TRAIT application, uploading pictures and parts used.
- Work independently, manage daily schedule, and prioritize tasks to meet Standard Repair Times.
- Communicate with management and support teams via email or phone for approvals, purchase order numbers, and RO findings.
- Adhere to safety, health and environmental policies and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lift and jacks.
- Obtain DOT forms, complete documentation timely, and maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements.
- Maintain positive client relationships by listening to customers, assessing needs, and providing solutions.
- High School Diploma/GED plus 3 years of related experience. Alternative qualification: any level degree or certification beyond HS, or 5 years of experience.
- Possess and supply necessary hand tools required for job duties.
- Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within eighteen (18) months.
- Pass DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening, DOT physical, or provide a DOT medical card with >4 months remaining.
- Minimum age of 21 and a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Show capability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for extended periods; handle moderate heavy labor.

- Logical reasoning and problem‑solving for alternative solutions.
- Effective communication—clear, organized, and two‑way.
- Accurate judgment of distances and object proximity.
- Strong decision‑making based on sound judgment.
- Ability to determine the proper tools and equipment for each task.
- Physical stamina for repetitive tasks and heavy labor.
