We are looking for an experienced and highly skilled Software Test Engineer to join our team, onsite in Wilmington, MA. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in verification and validation of complex software. You will be a key contributor on a team developing next generation solutions for our Inspection Business Unit. Perform requirements-based and system level testing across projects and platforms ensuring quality and efficiency for Onto's Inspection Business Unit solutions.

Cross-functional collaboration with software, hardware, manufacturing and applications teams to validate software.

Analyze and verify software requirements for testability, clarity and completeness.

Develop comprehensive test plans for new features and products.

Investigate, reproduce, log and escape issues/defects.

Develop efficient test strategies (test cases and procedures) for the different sub-systems comprising the product.

Develop and execute automated and manual tests, regression, functional, and acceptance tests.

Conduct thorough testing and debugging of software to ensure high-quality and reliable operation.

Participate in the design and implementation of new features and functionalities.

Perform design/code reviews for automation scripts and manual test cases, collaborating with systems engineers, software developers, and other technical staff.

Provide technical support and guidance to other team members.

Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies in software development and hardware-software integration.

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
• Ability to understand requirements and design test strategies and plans based on those requirements
• Proven experience (8+ years) in software testing and/or systems level testing for highly technical applications
• Experience developing automated tests and scripting (Python, JavaScript, etc.)
• On-the-job experience with generative/agentic AI tools like MS Copilot to accelerate and go deeper with software testing
• Experience testing client/server solutions
• Excellent skillset focused on Windows development, the .NET platform (C#, C++), and relational databases (SQL Server a plus)
• Experience with software development methodologies such as Agile, Scrum, or Kanban
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail and quality.
• Demonstrated experience debugging complex multi-threaded environments
• Ability to design and execute test strategies and plans based on requirements and functional designs
• Strong written and verbal communication and collaboration skills
• Ability to be onsite in Wilmington, MA.
