The Production Engineer will assist engineers and manufacturing staff with business‑critical projects that support daily operations, safety, quality, and productivity improvements of our products and processes. This position will cover existing operations and help with our expansion projects.
Responsibilities- Consults with design engineers on features needed for new or existing installation.
- Prepares purchase requisitions or work orders to obtain needed tools or parts for the installation.
- Coordinates staff and assists in set‑up of die and equipment assembly and debugging for installations to ensure on‑time completion.
- Investigates and resolves engineering‑related manufacturing problems.
- Compares dimensions of parts to blueprints and resolves differences by revising or redesigning, utilizing 2D & 3D CAD tools (AutoCAD & Solid Works) and Inventor programs.
- Assists with satellite plant installations, as needed, including set‑up, assembly, problem solving, and follow‑up to project completion.
- Analyzes data, evaluates results, and creates technical reports, recommending further actions to be taken.
- Works on cross‑disciplinary teams to solve manufacturing problems in the field.
- Reports project progress to Senior Management.
- Works with Tool and Die shop to develop tooling packages for production equipment.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar engineering area.
- 3–5 years manufacturing engineering experience.
- Experience with mechanical design, gear design, cam design, and/or food packaging machinery design.
- Proficient with AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor design software.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Background in Lean/6‑Sigma preferred.
- Prior leadership experience preferred.
- Understanding of the use of statistics in manufacturing.
- Strong written, verbal, analytical, and interpersonal skills required.
- High level of independent thinking and resourcefulness to develop and propose solutions to problems.
- Ability to interface with various levels of staff from peers to management, to production employees.
- While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
- The team member is frequently required to climb or balance and talk or hear.
- The team member is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- The team member must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Generally, this position’s work duties are split between a typical office setting and the plant production floor.
- While performing the duties of this job in the plant, the team member may be exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicular traffic.
- This position may be exposed to a wide range of temperatures in the plant.
- The noise level in the plant is frequently loud.
- The Massillon plant and grounds are tobacco‑free. This means that the use of tobacco of any kind will not be permitted anywhere in the building or on Crown property. This also includes prohibiting the use of any electronic cigarette devices.
