Position Summary

Ohio Department of Youth Services is seeking a Nurse 1 (Registered Nurse, RN) to deliver medical services to youth at the Indian River Juvenile Correctional Facility. The ideal candidate will be a strong leader with a solid nursing background and a passion to habilitate youth.

• Provide professional nursing care to youth; observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress of clinic out‑patients.
• Make nursing rounds; take and record initials; prepare and administer prescribed medications and ordered treatment plans.
• Monitor restrained patients (e.g., lockups, detention, isolated) on a timely basis (every 15 minutes).
• Provide immediate medical attention to emergencies (e.g., first aid, CPR, counsel patient regarding medical referrals, arrange transportation to hospital emergency room, contact staff physician for emergency illness or injury).
• Assist physicians in evaluation, treatment and care plans; assist with physical examinations; collect and test specimens; administer vaccinations and/or medical injections; schedule doctor appointments; arrange out‑patient clinical appointments with specialists.
• Prepare examination room; stock supplies; sterilize equipment.
• Chart and record all medications, treatments and pertinent medical information; complete required reports; admit and/or discharge patients; instruct patients regarding health maintenance and self‑administered medication; attend and participate in seminars, conferences and in‑service training.
• Maintain constant and exact inventory of all controlled drugs, medication, and medical equipment; order supplies; interview youth to obtain medical history.

Requires current licensure as registered professional nurse (RN) in the state of Ohio as issued by Board of Nursing per Section 4723.03 of Ohio Revised Code.
