The Fire Protection Estimator is a full-time, on-site role based in Matlock, responsible for preparing accurate estimates and proposals for passive fire protection projects. Day-to-day tasks include reviewing drawings and specifications, quantifying materials and labour, and developing cost breakdowns for services such as intumescent coatings, fire compartmentation, cementitious sprays, and fire door installations. The role involves liaising with project managers, site teams, suppliers, and clients to clarify requirements, obtain quotations, and ensure estimates align with technical standards and regulatory compliance.
The Estimator will update and maintain pricing databases, support tender submissions, and contribute to value engineering and project planning to help deliver competitive, high-quality solutions. Regular collaboration with operations and technical staff is expected to refine scopes of work, manage revisions, and support successful project delivery.
- Experience in construction or fire protection estimating, including reading and interpreting architectural and engineering drawings and specifications.
- Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with proficiency in estimating or spreadsheet software (e.g., Excel, estimating tools) and basic data management.
- Knowledge of passive fire protection systems, relevant UK building regulations, and industry standards, or a strong willingness to develop expertise in this domain.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with project managers, site teams, suppliers, and clients in a professional manner.
- High attention to detail, accuracy in cost calculations, and strong organisational skills to manage multiple tenders and deadlines.
- Previous experience in construction, fire protection, quantity surveying, or a related field; a technical or vocational qualification in construction, engineering, or similar is beneficial.
- Comfort working in an on-site office environment in Matlock and occasional visits to factory or project sites as required.
