Summary
:
The Radiologic Technologist (RT) works with medical providers and/or assistants at Novant-GoHealth Urgent Care to perform technical procedures, apply prescribed ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis, and analyze and report patient X‑rays. The RT also provides administrative support to ensure efficient operation of the urgent‑care centers, collaborating closely with the team on patient‑care management and communication.
- High school diploma required
- Graduate of an approved Radiologic Technologist program required
- Experience in a clinical setting preferred
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required at the time of hire, obtained through the American Red Cross (ARC) or the American Heart Association (AHA)
- ARRT registration required at time of hire
- State licensure as a Radiologic Technologist required at the time of hire (if applicable by state law)
- Responsible for X‑ray services as needed
- Perform X‑ray services under the direction of the clinical provider for patients of all ages
- Ensure proper patient positioning and protection during use
- Assist with patient transfers and mobility as necessary
- Inform technical staff of patient flow
- Prepare patients for examination, including interviews, medical history verification, and purpose of visit confirmation
- Perform preliminary physical tests (blood pressure, weight, temperature, etc.) and elevate critical cases
- Conduct point‑of‑care testing as needed (e.g., flu, strep, urinalysis, ECG, HCG)
- Maintain medical records and scan charts to patient files
- Conduct courtesy call‑backs for patient follow‑up on care
- Perform daily equipment controls, calibration, QA/QC logs, preventive maintenance, and submit repair tickets as needed
- Collaborate with ordering/treating providers to determine optimal procedures/views
- Support clinic operations to keep the center running smoothly
- Explain procedures to patients, ensuring comfort and safety, and answer questions
- Accurately position patients and equipment for optimal imaging
- Select proper radiation factors and settings for clear diagnostic images
- Maintain and clean X‑ray equipment, manage supplies
- Adhere to strict radiation safety protocols and implement ALARA principles
- Maintain accurate patient records and log completed procedures
- Verify image quality and ensure images are sent to radiologists for interpretation
- Knowledge of X‑ray procedures and protocols
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and body mechanics required for X‑ray testing
- Knowledge of radiology equipment and common safety hazards
- Proper patient positioning for X‑ray procedures
- Identification and notification of equipment problems
- Compliance with infection control and radiological safety procedures
