Position Overview

As a Veterinary Technician, you will support hospital operations by providing quality veterinary care and exceptional service to patients and clients. Your responsibilities include assessing patients, conducting examinations and diagnostic procedures, assisting during surgery, providing nursing care, managing supplies, maintaining records, and ensuring a safe and humane environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Determine animal requirements by conducting examinations, interviews, reviewing care plans, and performing laboratory tests.
  • Care for patients – take vital signs, collect samples, administer medications and vaccines, and bandage wounds.
  • Assist with examinations and operations by assembling supplies, restraining patients, and helping the veterinarian.
  • Apply knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and specialized drug administration.
  • Obtain and verify medications, including controlled drugs.
  • Ensure patients have food and water, clean rooms and cages, and observe clinical signs.
  • Fill prescriptions, log medication administration, and maintain drug security.
  • Sanitize and disinfect holding and operating areas and maintain sterile supplies.
  • Document patient conditions in the electronic database accurately and promptly.
  • Communicate patient status to owners as directed by the veterinarian.
  • Maintain equipment, troubleshoot, perform preventive maintenance, and request repairs.
  • Manage inventory, place orders, verify receipts, and maintain supply records.
  • Continuously update knowledge through educational opportunities.
  • Release pets to owners, ensuring cleanliness and grooming.
  • Follow oral and written directions and perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications (Required)
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 6 months of experience in Emergency, Specialty, or Urgent Care settings.
Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)
  • Certification as a Veterinary Technician (CVT, LVT, RVT, LVMT) or other state‑required license.
  • Demonstrated compassion, rapport building, and emotional support for pets and owners.
  • Team orientation – cooperative collaboration and goal‑oriented work.
  • Dependability – reliable completion of tasks.
  • Initiative – proactive problem‑solving.
