Description
Tutors are employed part-time to assist students who request tutoring in specific college courses and/or general study skills. Tutors also assist with tutoring English to non-native speakers through the English as a Second Language curriculum. Direct supervision and payment of tutors is provided under the Director of Student Success Services, although partial funding for tutors may come from the Perkins Grant.
Other duties may be assigned by the Director or the Perkins Coordinator.
Job Requirements
Education:
High School Diploma through graduate degree, depending on subject area tutored.
Experience:
Varies according to subject area tutored.
Knowledge:
Good knowledge of subject area to be tutored; knowledge of basic study skills and test taking skills; excellent reading ability; other knowledge may be required based upon subject area tutored.
Skills:
Good oral and written communication skills.
Personal:
Ability to communicate well with students and professional staff; ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, ability to work well under pressure; patience.
Physical:
Mobility to reach lower level of library via stairway or elevator. Adequate auditory and speaking ability in order to be able to communicate with students and staff; ability to see and read written student and course materials.
