Position SummaryPerforms diagnostic testing on patient samples to aid physicians in the diagnosis and/or monitoring of various disease states. Maintains laboratory records. Follows laboratory policies and procedures, as well as maintaining quality control practices in the laboratory.
Responsibilities- Perform phlebotomy duties.
- Assist with receiving, identifying, accessioning, processing and transporting specimens.
- Maintain adequate stock of supplies.
- Maintain work area in a safe, aseptic and organized manner.
- Perform clerical duties including answering phones, data entry, and filing.
- Communicate test results to appropriate healthcare providers.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology, Chemistry, Biology or Science and certified as a MT or CLA (AMT, ASCP, or NCA). (OR) Prior to January 1, 2006, an Associate Degree MLT with 3 years of experience and passed MT (AMT) certification. (OR) Anyone who graduated before February 29, 1992, must have passed the HEW/HHS proficiency exam for Medical Technologist or completed 90 hours in an accredited college with 16 hours in chemistry (6-semester hours in organic chemistry), 12 hours in biology and 3 hours of math and experience training or both covering several fields of medical laboratory work of at least one year and of such quality as to provide the education and training in medical technology.
- Laboratory experience preferred.
- Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
- Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
