The hourly rate for this position is $19.06. This is a part‑time position limited to a maximum of 24 hours per week and may include Saturday work as needed.

Position Summary

The Driver’s License Examiners (DLEs) serve as a first line of homeland security for the State of Oklahoma. They conduct driver’s license interviews, visual, written, and road examinations, inspections, and determine eligibility for driver’s licenses or state identification cards in compliance with state and federal regulations. Responsibilities include issuing or denying driving privileges and establishing and issuing state identification at designated locations throughout an assigned district.

Position

Responsibilities
  • Interview applicants to determine the type of license or identification required; review, inspect, and verify the legality of documents; verify identity and determine eligibility.
  • Advise applicants on reasons an application cannot be accepted and procedures to resolve any disqualifying issues, including providing expert testimony on medical disqualifications.
  • Evaluate medical, physical, or mental information provided by applicants based on state and federal standards; determine requirements for waivers or restrictions; advise on waiver procedures.
  • Conduct in‑depth safety inspections of vehicles and assess operators’ knowledge and ability to safely operate required systems.
  • Administer vision, written, pre‑trip, and skills tests; evaluate performance to determine knowledge and ability to safely operate motor vehicles; provide advice on improvement.
  • Establish driver’s license records while maintaining confidentiality and security in compliance with laws.
  • Assist the Legal Division in gathering evidence for potential legal action on fraudulent applications.
  • Respond to inquiries from motor license agents; provide information on laws, procedures, and recommend changes in driver’s license policies.
  • Conduct interviews and hearings regarding suspensions, revocations, restrictions, modifications, temporary licenses, and related matters; render final decisions and complete required documents.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws governing driving privileges, physical requirements, exemptions, license types, commercial vehicle regulations, and interviewing principles.
  • Ability to conduct interviews, inspect and evaluate vehicles, operate all types of motor vehicles, administer written and performance tests, verify authenticity of identification, communicate effectively, operate computers, and type.
Education & Experience
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in any field.
  • OR four (4) years of technical clerical office work.
  • OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preference May Be Given To Candidates Who
  • Have previous customer service experience.
  • Have familiarity with DMV processes and procedures.
  • Is proficient in typing at least 50 words per minute with minimal errors.
Special Requirements
  • Schedule may vary and require flexibility, including early or late shifts, weekends, and occasional overtime.
  • Work location may vary depending on agency needs.
  • Occasional travel required; capacity for all job‑related travel; possession and maintenance of a valid Oklahoma driver’s license required.
  • Work in a storefront setting with a large portion of the day on the store floor; mild noise level dependent on customer traffic.
  • Must be able to stand for up to eight hours a day and lift 10‑50 pounds regularly, with assistance as needed.
