Position OverviewSuperintendents provide on‑site field supervision, collaborate with the project management team on site logistics and communication plans, and ensure compliance with quality procedures, project plans, specifications, and shop drawings. The role supervises construction workers, foremen, assistant superintendents, and trade contractor employees.
Duties & Responsibilities- Develop a detailed site logistics, lifting, hoisting, deliveries, and site access plan.
- Inspect construction activities to ensure compliance with quality procedures and project documentation.
- Enforce Vaughn’s safety program and OSHA rules.
- Provide technical assistance, including drawing interpretation and recommended construction methods.
- Coordinate trade installations in advance to mitigate conflicts related to sequencing, constructability, schedule, and spatial issues.
- Review plans, specifications, and drawings before performing assigned duties.
- Promote positive communication and teamwork with QA/QC, safety, and project management.
- Assist in developing and implementing project procedures, working documents, and standards.
- Create and maintain a positive company image.
- Train assistants and workers to adhere to policies, submittals, schedules, and contracting.
- Build professional relationships with clients and design teams.
- Ensure on‑site personnel comply with project procedures.
- Maintain strong organizational skills for project completion.
- Prepare accurate timesheets, unit reporting, daily construction reports, and labor projections.
- Follow company policies and procedures in all work activities.
- Collaborate with project management for status reports and labor/material projections.
- Maintain and adjust schedules to ensure coordinated installations.
- Develop and implement an effective job site communications plan.
- Maintain excellent attendance and punctuality.
- Minimum 10 years as a project superintendent with a construction management‑at‑risk, hard bid, or design‑build contractor, overseeing multiple projects valued over $10 million each.
- Experience with healthcare, higher education, and/or laboratory projects preferred.
- Experience in self‑performing excavation, concrete, and finish carpentry.
- Track record of profitable projects and on‑budget labor performance.
- Ability to manage multiple personnel and technical issues simultaneously.
- Thorough knowledge of construction technology, equipment, methods, and safety.
- Solid leadership and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office, Email, and PDF.
- Ability to meet or beat project schedules.
- Effective supervision of large craft worker groups.
