Join GFT as a Project Geotechnical Engineer in our Dams & Hydraulics team in Texas. This role follows a hybrid work model, with regular attendance at Houston, Austin, San Antonio, El Paso, McAllen, Fort Worth, Dallas, or remote depending on location.
What You Will DoGFT’s Geotechnical Dams & Hydraulics Team has the expertise to excel on the most challenging geotechnical assignments. We provide innovative solutions for foundations; underground construction; earth structures, including dams and levees; groundwater resources; and marginal building sites.
Our geotechnical engineers and geologists specialize in landslides, sinkholes, mine subsidence, seepage, expansive soils, and seismic activity. We have completed over 1,000 subsurface and geophysical projects across the U.S.
What You’ll Be Challenged To DoThis is an excellent career opportunity for an experienced, motivated Geotechnical Engineer to provide technical input and oversight on large, complex projects. Expertise is required in dam and levee safety; foundation design; seismic evaluation; slope stability; and development of recommendations for linear infrastructure projects. The position includes general geotechnical engineering on hydropower facilities and remediation of landslides and geologic hazards.
Responsibilities- Plans and determines scope, resources, schedule, and budget requirements for major and/or complex projects
- Independently designs and leads major projects
- Assists in leading multiple large projects with multidisciplinary teams and subcontractors
- Applies extensive knowledge to evaluate, select, and apply techniques and procedures
- Performs construction support services, including bid assistance, construction observation, coordination with contractors, and project closeout
- Reviews completed project documents for conformity and quality assurance
- Conducts business development to build a book of business: generates leads, pursues new opportunities, and develops new markets/clients
- Works with multidisciplinary teams for project pursuit and capture
- Builds and maintains client relationships and manages client expectations, assisting with risk evaluation and asset management
- Develops new techniques and improved processes
- Assists in project meetings and presents specific engineering assignments
- Represents the organization in communications and conferences regarding broad engineering aspects
- Assigns tasks to and directs junior consultants and technicians
- Assists senior management in implementing business programs and may manage organizational programs under direction of senior management
- Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET‑accredited college or university
- 4 or more years of increasing responsibility and experience in geotechnical engineering
- Experience in project management on multidisciplinary teams, and business and client development
- Professional Engineering license in Texas
- Knowledge of GDH practices: foundation design, seismic hazard evaluation, liquefaction assessment, slope stability, and seepage analysis
- Proficient in the review and preparation of reports, plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E)
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MS Office, and similar computer programs
- Knowledge of specialized computer analysis programs (e.g., FLAC, Geo Studio, Mathcad)
- Master of Science Degree preferred
- Geotechnical Engineering license in California
- Knowledge of landslide stabilization
The salary range for this role is $100,000 - $140,000, dependent upon experience and geographic location.
