Position: Field Service Engineer 1

Overview

Rapiscan Systems, an OSI Systems Company, is seeking a Field Service Engineer I based in the Rio Grande area. As a leading provider of advanced X‑ray screening systems, we serve ports, borders, military, and high‑threat facilities worldwide. This entry‑level role focuses on ensuring customer satisfaction through equipment performance, basic troubleshooting, and diagnostic support. The position requires up to 100% travel (international and domestic), non‑standard hours, and occasional weekend work.

Responsibilities
  • Perform service and maintenance for Rapiscan systems as directed by Field Service Managers.
  • Adhere to field service contract requirements for response time, information reporting, and customer management.
  • Communicate with customers during system corrective and preventative visits to ensure work is executed per plan.
  • Coordinate with Customer Service Coordinators for on‑time delivery of parts and materials.
  • Maintain and carry Field Service Tool Set and manage timely return of calibrated equipment.
  • Complete timely reporting of labor, expense, and materials to support service contract requirements.
  • Ensure proper distribution and storage of all required forms, documentation, and radiation survey records per company policy.
  • Follow company safety program requirements and report all accident and safety incidents.
  • Provide system status updates via CRM reporting and use mobile devices to communicate updates.
  • Carry company‑provided cell phone and laptop; be on call.
  • Maintain a safe, clean work environment and adhere to safety procedures and product workmanship procedures.

  • Report any quality problems or defects to a manager or senior management on time.
  • Perform duties as modified or assigned to meet business needs.
  • Sub‑list for safety:
    • Report all accidents and prepare incident reports; collaborate with management for corrective and preventative actions.
    • Lead coordination of emergency response with customers and manage all work at the system location.
Qualifications
  • A.S. in Electronic Technology or Engineering, with mechanical engineering background preferred.
  • Technical degree or demonstrable mechanical ability and knowledge; prior experience may substitute the degree.
  • Basic knowledge of analog, digital, and mechanical systems.
  • 0–3 years of experience in related field.
  • Networking hardware and software literacy.
  • Database management and programming skills with firmware protocols.
  • Ability to manage both technical and administrative functions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills (multilingual a plus).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Experience with ERP systems (D365 preferred).
  • Independent decision‑making within Rapiscan guidelines.
  • Availability for on‑call rotation and off‑hours work.
  • Physical capabilities: stand, bend, stoop, walk, lift up to 50 lb daily; work outdoors in inclement weather as needed.
  • U.S. person (citizen or permanent resident) required for U.S. Federal Government contract.
Travel Requirements
  • Willingness and flexibility to travel domestically and internationally up to 100%.
  • Plan and arrange travel accommodations independently within Rapiscan guidelines.
  • Adapt to sudden schedule changes, flight delays, or onsite weather delays.
  • Maintain and submit expense receipts; manage administrative tasks remotely.
  • Obtain required site passes, clearances, and visas.
  • Maintain a valid passport and credit card for business travel.
  • Comply with company travel policy and background check requirements.
