Staff Psychologist (ICMHR-RANGE) – EDRP, Recruitment/Relocation Incentive Authorized

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs seeks a staff psychologist to serve in the Intensive Community Mental Health Recovery Rural Access Network (ICMHR‑RANGE).

Pay Range

Base pay: $83,280–$154,309 per year (GS‑11 to GS‑13). Competitive salary and incremental increases. Eligibility for Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – up to $200,000 over 1‑5 years.

Summary

This position is open for a full‑time Staff Psychologist at the Full Performance (GS‑13) level, with flexibility to be appointed at GS‑11 through GS‑13 depending on experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities
  • Develop individualized treatment plans with measurable goals and coordinate multidisciplinary care for veterans with severe, persistent mental illness.
  • Provide individual and family clinical interventions to address substance abuse, psychiatric illness, and social needs.
  • Facilitate assessment, identification, referral, and linkage to appropriate medical, psychiatric, and social services.
  • Consult with relevant clinical staff to assign veterans to VA treatment teams and programs.
  • Lead community outreach and organize collaborative efforts to support veteran independence.
  • Maintain professional judgment, documenting treatment progress and scholarly activities when applicable.
  • Perform research duties as required, including design, implementation, and data management of clinical research projects.
  • Adhere to work schedule Monday‑Friday, 8 AM‑4:30 PM and follow all federal safety and telework policies.
Qualifications
  • Basic Requirements
    • U.S. citizenship.
    • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
    • Doctoral degree in psychology from an APA‑, CPA‑, or PCSAS‑accredited program (or eligible alternative, see full criteria).
    • Completion of a professional internship accredited by APA or CPA, or an equivalent supervised experience ensuring a full‑year internship standard.
    • Current, full, unrestricted state license to practice psychology at the doctoral level (or temporary graduate psychologist appointment under 38 U.S.C. 7405).
    • For GS‑11: no additional experience beyond basic requirements.
    • For GS‑12: at least one year of professional psychologist experience equivalent to GS‑11.
    • For GS‑13: at least two years of professional psychologist experience, including one year at GS‑12 level.
  • Preferred Experience
    • Full, unrestricted license with at least one year experience with veterans diagnosed with serious mental illness.
    • Experience in community‑based care management and interdisciplinary mental health teams.
    • Proficiency in evidence‑based therapies (e.g., CBT‑for‑psychosis, social skills training, DBT).
  • Physical requirements:

    vision 20/40, motor, auditory and color vision as per federal criteria.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Professional psychological treatments and assessment methods for diverse populations.
    • Ability to design and implement effective treatment strategies.
    • Research skills for clinical projects (for GS‑12/13).
    • Consultative abilities for professional psychology and behavioral health.
    • Knowledge of clinical research literature.

  • Recruitment/Relocation Incentive may be authorized (subject to approval).
  • EDRP participation eligible for up to $200,000.
