Job SummaryOur Linguists perform real‑time transcriptions of sensitive Urban English material into English, analyze colloquialisms and slang, and communicate pertinent information to law enforcement agents. The linguist transcribes source documents and recordings from various media.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities- Listen to oral and written intercepts or pre‑recorded communications in Urban English and provide verbal and written synopsis and transcriptions as applicable.
- Relate all pertinent information to the client when supporting a live project.
- Contribute to and maintain a master‑list of slang words and codes for the project or case.
- Maintain a voice library for the duration of the project.
- Transcribe and translate pertinent calls and documents as assigned by the supervisor.
- Produce court‑ready transcriptions of calls, chats, and documents in the required format.
- Use reference tools created during the project.
- Transcribe a minimum of 16 minutes of recorded conversation in an 8‑hour day.
- Operate specialized software equipment, including JSI voice box, Pen‑link, Comverse, and other communication collection equipment.
- Maintain a daily log of productivity.
- Perform related duties as assigned within the scope of practice.
- Bachelor’s degree AND three years of experience in a professional setting OR Associate degree AND five years of experience OR High School Diploma AND seven years of experience.
- One year of transcription experience in the required language.
- U.S. Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident.
- Knowledge of source language colloquial terms and expressions; familiarity with SMS language, social media, and Webchat.
- Excellent verbal and written skills in the target language, including correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
- Score 3 or better on a third‑party language assessment (Listening/Speaking/Reading/Writing) in English.
- Strong computer skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast‑paced environment and communicate effectively with management and law enforcement personnel.
- Strong time‑management, prioritization, and teamwork skills.
- Type 45 words per minute.
Applicants selected may be subject to a government background investigation and required to meet clearance requirements, including a favorable credit check and medical/drug screen.

Adequate mobility to attend meetings. - Climbing/Stooping/Kneeling: 0%–10% of the time.

- Fingering/Grasping/Feeling:
Must write, type, and use a telephone system 100% of the time. - Sitting:
Prolonged periods of sitting while monitoring live or taped calls.
