Extrusion Manager - Plastics - Base Salary to 120k/year - McAllen, TX

- The Extrusion Manager is responsible for the direct oversight and coordination of daily production activities within the plastics compounding and recycling extrusion department. This position ensures that production schedules are met safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established quality standards. The Extrusion Manager will lead a team of operators, maintain consistent communication with maintenance and quality departments, and contribute to the continuous improvement of extrusion operations.
- Supervise and coordinate daily extrusion operations, ensuring compliance with production schedules, quality standards, and safety procedures.
- Provide leadership, training, and performance feedback to extrusion operators, helpers, and material handlers.
- Monitor process parameters, material feed systems, and production output to ensure consistent product quality and efficient operation.
- Collaborate with maintenance and engineering teams to address equipment issues and minimize downtime.
- Ensure all equipment setups, startups, and changeovers are completed accurately and efficiently.
- Review production reports, material usage, and scrap rates to identify improvement opportunities.
- Maintain accurate documentation of production data, downtime, and process adjustments.
- Promote and enforce safety policies, including lockout/tagout (LOTO), PPE use, and housekeeping standards.
- Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action for quality or process deviations.
- Assist in the installation, testing, and qualification of new extrusion lines or upgrades.
- Support implementation of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Understanding of plastic extrusion, compounding, and pelletizing processes.
- Knowledge of thermoplastic materials, additives, and colorant blending used in recycling operations.
- Ability to interpret process documentation, work orders, and technical specifications.
- Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting extrusion controls, vacuum conveying systems, and pelletizing equipment.
- Ability to train, mentor, and motivate production personnel.
- Working knowledge of quality management systems (ISO, ISCC+) and safety regulations.
- Computer proficiency for production reporting and process monitoring.
- High school diploma or GED required; technical or associate degree in Manufacturing Technology, Industrial Engineering, or related field preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in extrusion or compounding operations, with at least two (2) years in a supervisory or lead role.
- Experience with twin-screw extrusion, strand pelletizing, and recycled polymer processing strongly preferred.
- Proven track record of meeting production goals, improving process efficiency, and reducing downtime.
- Base salary to 120k/year
