Job DescriptionThe Material Handler is responsible for the safe, accurate, and efficient handling of food production through the warehouse. This includes receiving, storing, sorting, stacking, and loading products while maintaining strict compliance with food safety and sanitation standards.
Duties and Responsibilities- Load, unload, and move commodities with the warehouse or production area using forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment.
- Receive and inspect incoming shipments.
- Accurately pick, pack, and stage commodities for production processing or shipment.
- Maintain organized and clean work spaces.
- Operate equipment safely and report any malfunctions or safety issues.
- Follow all company safety procedures, policies, and food handling instructions.
- Assist with other facility or production duties as assigned.
- Requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Successfully manage daily operations and productivity of a dynamic temporary workforce.
- High school diploma or GED (required).
- 1-2 years of experience in a warehouse, manufacturing, or distribution environment (preferred).
- Experience using material handling equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, or hand trucks (preferred).
- Ability to safely and efficiently move, load, unload, and stage materials.
- Familiarity with inventory systems, barcoding, and warehouse management systems (WMS).
- Basic math and reading skills to follow instructions, read labels, and complete logs or forms.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions in English. Spanish is plus.
- Basic computer skills (e.g., data entry, scanning systems) are a plus.
- Forklift certification or willingness to become certified (required by many employers).
- Ability to stand, walk, and lift/move items up to 50 lbs. frequently.
- Comfortable performing repetitive motions and operating in fast‑paced environments.
- Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
- Willingness to work flexible hours as needed (including nights/weekends in peak periods).
Physical Requirements
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee is regularly exposed to energized electrical gear, moving mechanical parts, tools and vehicles. Also, the employee is occasionally exposed to low permissible levels of ionizing radiation. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Constant work in temperatures averaging 41°F is required.
