Loan Assistant

Summary of Duties

The loan assistant position is one of the most challenging positions in the bank. The loan assistant is responsible for assisting with the total relationship of the customer, encompassing real estate, consumer and commercial loans as well as deposit relationships. With a large volume of documentation and workflow, loan assistants must be highly organized, exhibit excellent people skills and multi‑tasking abilities, possess sufficient computer and technical skills, and work under pressure without the customer sensing it.

• Customer Interaction
  • Serve as the gateway to the bank’s loan experience, displaying a welcoming and professional demeanor.
  • Reflect a willingness and desire to help customers and fellow employees.
• Loan Officer Interaction
  • Act as an extension of the assigned loan officer(s); typically assigned to a small group of officers.
  • Receive first-line supervision and direction from the relevant loan officer.
• Third Party Interaction
  • Gather general information to determine the appropriate staff member to assist the customer.
  • Adjust to the style and method of the responsible loan officer during the loan application process.
  • Complete loan applications, perform credit bureau requests, and follow loan documentation checklists for all applications pre‑ and post‑close.
• Loan Closings & Disbursements
  • Handle loan closings and disbursement of proceeds efficiently and accurately.
  • Ensure all disbursement entries are delivered to Loan Operations on the day of closing or by the following day.
• Loan Policy & Procedures Knowledge
  • Familiarize with loan policy, procedures, and documentation requirements.
  • Seek opportunities to deepen knowledge of job duties and lending issues.
• Training and Knowledge Growth
  • Complete all assigned training promptly.
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of bank policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

• Assist lenders with collections, loan exceptions, obtaining financial data, and insurance.
• Perform collection calls and clear loan exceptions as directed by the assigned loan officer.
• Gather financial data and other relevant information.
• Handle additional responsibilities as may arise following the guidelines outlined in the general responsibilities.
