Under general supervision of the Clinic Administrator and Office Manager, Physician, NP, RN or LPN, the Medical Assistant documents clinic patient care, reviews and maintains patient charts per policy, assists with accurate and timely entry of patient data, orders, and charges into the computer system, performs vital signs using BP cuff, stethoscope, EKG machine, electronic thermometer, eye chart, otoscope/ophthalmoscope, weight scales, and follows medication management, reconciliation, and documentation policies.
Workload is determined by the clinic's appointment schedule, staffing levels, and outpatient clinic needs. The position may require reassignment within the clinic or float to another clinic. Up to 40 hours per week with possible weekend work. Phone handling, chart filing, appointment scheduling and other front‑staff tasks are included.
Key Responsibilities- Document patient care and maintain charts per policy.
- Enter accurate and timely patient data, orders, and charges into the computer system.
- Perform patient vitals and diagnostic tests using BP cuff, stethoscope, EKG, thermometer, eye chart, otoscope/ophthalmoscope, and weight scales.
- Follow medication management and reconciliation procedures.
- Obtain patient signatures and documentation for release of medical information.
- Adhere to lab quality control, proficiency testing, and documentation policies.
- Respond to phone calls within the third ring and take accurate messages.
- File charts, schedule appointments, and assist front‑staff as needed.
- Maintain a professional, non‑defensive manner with peers, physicians, administration, patients, and visitors.
