Lab Certification RequiredRegulatory Requirement (education and related knowledge):
- Including 6‑12 months of clinical education acceptable through NAACLS to the CAHEA of the American Medical Association.
- Must be able to perform all phases of the job at a satisfactory level in 4 months or 130 days.
- Current MT Certification or eligible for certification by a nationally recognized agency such as ASCP, NCA, or equivalent.
- Generalist certification is required within 2 years of employment.
- Maintains CMP if applicable.
The Medical Technologist uses the laboratory process to safely perform laboratory procedures. Working assignments are determined by the workload of laboratory tests to be done. The technologist follows departmental procedures and policies that reflect the services provided by the laboratory, operates and maintains laboratory instruments, and is assigned up to 40 hours a week, rotating between day and night shifts according to the needs of the unit and staff.
The medical technologist is expected to function within the scope of approved policies, procedures, and regulations for the department and organization, address instrument problems independently, assist with orientation, preceptorship, and management of personnel assigned to the unit, and work professionally with peers, physicians, administration, patients, and visitors. Attendance to yearly mandatory education requirements is non‑negotiable and the employee must arrange and attend these sessions.
The employee must be willing to perform any duty within scope of medical technologist as requested by laboratory manager or director.
