Galvanizing Material Handler (1st Shift)
Valmont Industries, Inc. is seeking a dedicated Galvanizing Material Handler for the 1st Shift (Monday‑Thursday 6:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. + Overtime). This individual contributor role prepares products and materials for the galvanizing process, conducts inspections, and supports plant housekeeping and safety.
Location: 75 South Hwy 83, McCook, Nebraska 69001‑8569
Shift: 1st Shift, Monday‑Thursday 6:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. + Overtime
Compensation: $19.65 per hour with structured pay increases at 6 months, 1 year, and 2 years. An annual bonus and career growth opportunities are available.
Responsibilities- Follow procedures and work instructions safely and efficiently, including hanging angle on spreader bars, staging tubular products, and preparing small parts for galvanizing.
- Communicate potential material problems to the crew leader or shift supervisor before galvanizing.
- Inspect and identify production fixtures, chains, and hooks to ensure proper repair or disposal of unsafe items.
- Pull and place chains and ropes around steel bundles for racking.
- Move up to 50‑pound steel pieces by hand between locations in the plant and yard.
- Perform paddling functions at the kettle using air guns.
- Operate air and electrically powered tools on black and galvanized steel.
- Perform postoperative cleanup of galvanized parts, including packaging and banding outgoing material.
- Operate a forklift as needed.
- Assist with general plant cleanup and housekeeping.
- Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to accurately read a tape measure.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Six months of experience with hand tools and gauges (impact wrenches, air grinders, drills, taps, mill gauges).
- Strong communication skills and a positive interaction with coworkers.
- Attention to detail and adherence to work instructions.
- High safety awareness.
- Availability to work 1–2 shifts of overtime per week.
- Passion, integrity, and a drive to excel and deliver exceptional results.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Six months of previous experience operating a bridge crane.
