Job SummaryThe WEC Detention Facility houses adults who have been adjudicated and are awaiting deportation. Duties- Perform skilled facility maintenance and repairs, including carpentry, flooring, drywall, electrical, plumbing, locksmithing, and painting.
- Install, repair, and maintain locks and security hardware throughout the facility.
- Oversee preventative maintenance and safety inspections to ensure a safe, secure, and functional environment.
- Supervise maintenance porters while maintaining accountability of tools and work areas.
- Complete building alterations and repairs, including framing, concrete finishing, and flooring.
- Assist with seasonal duties such as lawn care and snow removal.
Minimum Qualifications: Associates degree or equivalent vocational education in construction, industrial engineering, HVAC, welding, or other building trade. Experience in building maintenance, a mechanical trade, or performing safety inspections, investigations or training may be substituted for education on a year‑for‑year basis as determined appropriate by the agency.
Other:
Must have valid driver’s license. Must be able to work an on‑call rotation. Must be able to lift 50 lbs with assistance. Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre‑employment exams in order: a medical exam and, at a randomly announced time, a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy, the applicant must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program.
