Maintenance Technician II

Dole Packaged Foods (McDonough Operations) is a large diverse operation with the primary function of processing and packaging frozen fruit for retail sale. Critical to the execution of Dole McDonough's function of processing and packaging frozen fruit is various processing and packaging equipment. To support business success, the site will be staffed first and second shift to provide maintenance support to ensure safe and reliable operation.

Candidates will need to be flexible to work first or second shift, and weekends as needed.

Under general supervision, performs a wide variety of skilled, journey-level duties in the installation, design, maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment and machinery used in the operation of a food manufacturing facility and performs related duties as assigned.

Maintenance Level II is the experienced/journey-level class in the series, fully competent to independently perform duties. This class is distinguished from the lower classification of Level I by the relative independence with which mechanical and electrical duties are performed.

Responsibilities

The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the class.

Maintenance Technician II performs a variety of skilled duties involving in the inspection, diagnosis, troubleshooting, maintenance, repair and servicing of field and shop equipment, components, facilities and machinery associated with the production of frozen foods, such as check weights, baggers, conveyors, scales, metal detectors, pipes, tubes, rods, seals, shafts, gears, motors, valves, pumps; tests and monitors equipment and machinery, vibration, bearing temperature and output capacity.

  • Repairs and maintains facility equipment
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs equipment, hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Maintains and services air compressors; maintains, installs, pulls, services and aligns all electric motors.
  • Operates forklifts, compressors, portable and stationary generators, steam cleaners, pneumatic, hydraulic and electric tools, shop machinery and related tools and equipment.
  • Responds to equipment breakdowns
  • Maintains, repairs, and services
  • Schedules and coordinates activities
  • Ensures timely and accurate completion of preventative maintenance activities, utilizing computerized maintenance management programs; maintains detailed record keeping in support of computerized maintenance management system.
  • Requisition s necessary tools, equipment and supplies.
  • Researches new operational methods, techniques and equipment and recommends their application.
  • Plans and lays out jobs from blueprints, drawings, sketches or verbal instructions; maintains records in the form of blueprints, plans and specifications for industrial and waterworks equipment and machinery; makes suggestions for system design and operational improvements.
  • Designs and fabricates a variety of brackets, supports and other metal structures using fabricating equipment.
  • Rebuilds existing pumps and valves.
  • Fabricates and installs piping for new pump installations which may include plumbing, pipe fitting and machine tool operations.
  • Responds to emergency situations as necessary while utilizing departmental safety equipment, policies and procedures.
  • Uses lockout/block out procedures to block electrical and other energy sources and operations equipment at panel for maintenance purposes.
  • Performs a variety of semi-skilled duties involved in the inspection, diagnosis, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair and servicing of the facility equipment, components, and machinery.
  • Tests, troubleshoots, calibrates and performs preventative maintenance on a variety of complex electronic instruments and equipment.
  • Responds to emergencies related to DML operation.
  • Works to ensure the DML safety program is carried out.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
