Salary Range: $15.75 - $15.75 Hourly
Position SummaryThe Shelter Assistant is responsible for providing shelter services, maintaining the safety and security of the shelter and enforcing shelter policies during assigned shift.

Essential Functions- Utilize knowledge of PADS policy and procedure to maintain services and safety of the shelter.
- Oversee shelter services including access to lockers, sleeping rooms, sitting/rec areas inside and outside, showers, dining area, meals and laundry.
- In collaboration with case management staff, assist clients with life skills training.
- Assist in keeping the shelter clean, including doing shelter laundry.
- Answer incoming phone calls.
- Works effectively with a diverse population of people and demographics, including people who have mental health, physical health and substance abuse diagnosis and related needs/behaviors.
- Maintain professional, calm, objective judgement in handling disputes between clients, encountering challenging behaviors and deciding steps to be taken to manage the dynamic between people living in an emergency shelter.
- Able to manage multiple requests or situations and triage/prioritize those that must be dealt with immediately.
- Able to determine when to call crisis or 911 when needed.
- Write SIRs when necessary.
- Understands and follows appropriate policies, procedures, rules, and regulations. Assist with program supply monitoring, ordering and stocking.
- Monitor shelter security including parking lot, surveillance cameras, doors, etc.
- Build professional rapport with clients, observing objective boundaries at all times, while assisting clients in building skills in their recovery, resiliency, and independence.
- Be able to use nonviolent crisis intervention methods to de‑escalate verbally and potentially physically escalated clients.
- Respect the privacy, confidentiality and property of clients.
- Maintain ethical and professional boundaries.
- Keep and maintain appropriate and required records.
- Regular, reliable, predictable attendance.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Education: High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED):
Required
Experience: Previous experience preferred.
Computer
Skills:
Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Outlook.
Certifications & Licenses: N/A.
Other Requirements: Must have and maintain a valid driver's license. Ability to use phone, fax, copier, and file required.
