Position: Occupational Therapist (OT) Outpatient

Base pay range

$37.50/hr - $56.25/hr

Major Responsibilities
  • Interprets physician referrals and evaluates the patient's physical, perceptual, cognitive, social, and vocational abilities and their impact on activities of daily living.
  • Establishes a plan of care and implements individual treatment based on evaluation results, functional goals, and appropriate techniques. Provides and/or fabricates assistive devices and/or splints to enhance functional independence. Monitors and evaluates outcomes and adjusts the treatment plan as needed, communicating with physicians and the care team.
  • Identifies factors affecting the patient’s physical and psychosocial comfort and addresses those needs.
  • Plans for and completes patient discharge, including written home programs, patient/family teaching, referrals for community services, transition planning, and equipment orders when indicated.
  • Communicates and collaborates with stakeholders to achieve optimum patient care. Completes required documentation per department policy and accreditation standards, including evaluations, progress notes, and discharge summaries with appropriate co-signatures.
  • Manages documentation, daily statistics, billing, scheduling, and adherence to insurance guidelines for authorization and number of visits. Maintains productivity standards and compliance with billing and documentation policies, procedures, and timelines.
  • Maintains a clean, safe work area and performs related manual techniques, patient positioning, transfers, and transport duties using proper technique. Demonstrates knowledge of modalities and exercise indications/contraindications and promotes patient safety by following safety and infection control measures.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities and assists with coverage planning based on department and regional needs. Pursues professional growth through continuing education and participates in staff orientation as requested.
  • Possibly supervises occupational therapy assistants and/or extenders according to applicable laws and department policies, including delegation, treatment guidance, and ongoing supervision while maintaining responsibility for patient care plans.
Minimum

Job Requirements
  • Education
    :
    Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program; maintains continuing education requirements as mandated by state standards.
  • Certification / Registration / License
    :
    Licensed Occupational Therapist in the practicing state. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers (AHA) obtained within 90 days unless exempted by department leadership.
  • Work Experience
    :
    No experience required.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
  • Intermediate computer skills
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational abilities
  • Strong organization, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
  • Completion of competency assessments related to patient care and site standards
  • Awareness of annual educational requirements for hospital-based certifications
  • Ability to provide age-appropriate care and understand growth and development across the lifespan
Physical Requirements And Working Conditions
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, and squat during the workday
  • Lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist; lift up to 10 lbs from waist to overhead; lift and carry up to 40 lbs at waist height over a reasonable distance
  • Push/pull with 30 lbs of force; perform sliding transfers with assistance
  • Repetitive hand use including simple grasping and fine manipulation during therapy
  • Must have functional use of senses for effective communication
  • Exposure to hazards and need for protective clothing; travel may be required
  • Operates equipment necessary to perform the job
