This position is eligible for a generous sign‑on bonus of up to $20,000 for external applicants.

Schedule

40 hours per week (typically 80 hours per pay period). Both 8‑ and 12‑hour shifts required, with flexible weekend, holiday, and off‑shift responsibilities to ensure adequate staffing. Hours may change based on unit needs. Clinician may have off‑shift accountability for delivering nursing care when needed.

Clinician Overview

The Clinician is a nurse leader responsible for achieving a culture of excellence and patient care. Under the direct supervision of the Unit Director, responsibilities include employee evaluations, staff selection and hiring, and daily performance management of direct reports. The Clinician provides service‑based education, clinical expertise, orientation, training, and consultation on practice issues.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain productive working relationships internally and externally by building teams and mentoring.
  • Coach colleagues on cultural diversity and address workplace horizontal violence.
  • Demonstrate accountability for safe work hours, time management, and healthy lifestyles.
  • Apply performance improvement tools and techniques to continuously improve quality of care.
  • Share learning from improvements with other units and across the business.
  • Mentor, educate, and support others, positively impacting patients, families, and peers.
  • Act as a preceptor for student nurses, nurse interns, graduate and experienced nurses.
  • Lead the change process for patient safety, quality, and satisfaction.
  • Apply nursing knowledge within relationship‑based care and the nursing process.
  • Ensure comprehensive patient documentation and effective communication among caregivers.
  • Assume formal leadership responsibilities in quality improvement, evidence‑based practice, or new hire onboarding.
  • Assist with staff performance evaluations for direct reports as applicable.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 4 years of nursing experience for Senior Clinician title.
  • Minimum 3 years of nursing experience for a Clinician title.
  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience for a Clinician Fellow title.
  • BS/BSN required; if BS is not in nursing, a Master’s or higher degree in Nursing is required.
  • Employees with a BSN may substitute a Master’s degree with a UPMC‑approved nursing certification required within 1 year of hire/transfer and must be maintained.
  • Demonstrated competence as a Professional Staff Nurse, including knowledge of patient care across age groups, critical thinking, and physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning.
Licensure, Certifications and Clearances
  • Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in a practicing state.
  • National Certification preferred.
  • CPR required within 30 days of hire, including didactic and skills demonstration.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIH) experience.
  • Acts 34 and 73 required with renewal.
