UPMC McKeesport 3C Addiction Medicine UnitPatient Care Technician to work flexfull‑time evening hours. The role requires a minimum of 28 hours per week, with the possibility of up to 40 hours if shifts are available. Shift options include 2:30pm–10:30pm, 6:30pm–10:30pm, and 10:30pm–6:30am with rotating weekends and holidays. All evening shifts are eligible for a night differential of up to an extra $1.60 per hour.
In this role, you will primarily assist in our Addiction Medicine and Rehab Units, but may also be called upon to support other inpatient units as needed. You will provide compassionate, high‑quality care to patients dealing with drug and alcohol addiction, develop strong relationships with patients, families, and the care team, and contribute to the recovery journey of each individual.
Responsibilities- Provide patient care including assisting with patient procedures and activities of daily living; assist with physical, respiratory and cardiopulmonary therapies; provide feedback to the RN regarding patient care and report changes in patient status.
- Perform UPMC nursing core nursing assistant responsibilities (blood glucose, weights, vital signs, I&O, specimen collections, Foley care) and at least four of the following unit‑identified tasks: phlebotomy, 12‑lead EKG, simple dressing, Foley catheter removal, point‑of‑care testing, bladder scan, straight catheter, or IV catheter removal.
- Report equipment malfunctions to the appropriate department; establish and maintain effective communication with other departments; respond to call lights, telephones, and patient transport; pass meal trays.
- Constructively receive feedback and direction; identify and communicate learning needs to the unit director; take action to improve knowledge, skills, and performance; request assistance in planning and prioritizing activities as needed; participate in self‑review as requested.
- Provide instruction to patients and families under RN direction; apply, monitor, and remove patient restraints as per physician or hospital protocol.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with all members of the health care team; demonstrate understanding of cultural diversity, horizontal violence, and impairment; maintain a safe workplace.
- Adhere strictly to all policies and procedures related to patient care, safety, and hospital information; comply with standard precautions.
- Suggest and support changes within the department; assume responsibility for assignment; view problems as challenges; support department‑based projects and quality initiatives.
- Document in the medical record in accordance with established procedures; perform assigned work in a timely and productive manner; complete departmental clerical functions as needed.
- Must routinely perform and be fully competent with UPMC nursing core assistant responsibilities—including ADLs (bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating, turning, repositioning); point‑of‑care testing (blood glucose), weights, vital signs, I/O, telemetry monitor application/reapplication, hospital‑acquired condition and patient safety indicators; simple dressings; placement and removal of restraints; bladder scan; all specimen collections and intrahospital patient transportation.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Either: 1 year of general healthcare experience, or 6 months of experience as a UPMC Nursing Assistant/CNA with PCT competency achieved within 120 days of hire, or enrollment in a PT/OT/PA or related healthcare training program with completion of at least one clinical rotation, or completion of a bachelor’s degree in a health sciences field.
- Successful completion of UPMC patient care technician class.
- Successful completion of eRecord training.
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic certification preferred; currently enrolled in an EMT or Paramedic program is acceptable.
- CPR required within 30 days of hire; ACLS preferred.
- CCMC required within 60 days of hire.
- Act 33 with renewal and Act 34.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCMC)
- Act 33 with renewal
- Act 34
