Position: Staff Nurse- Weekend Program, 4 M General Surgery

Staff Nurse – Weekend Program, 4M General Surgery

UPMC McKeesport is hiring a full‑time Staff Nurse to help support the 4M General Surgery Unit. The unit focuses on teamwork and collaboration and is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of patients. This position is part of the Weekend Program; candidates will work two 12‑hour weekend shifts and receive an additional 25% added to their base rate.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate knowledge of adult learning principles and teach patients, families, students, and new staff, potentially serving as a preceptor.
  • Develop and maintain productive working relationships internally and externally, demonstrating accountability, enthusiasm, and commitment.
  • Apply the nursing process within a relationship‑based care framework, formulating daily goals and plans of care that involve the patient as a partner.
  • Actively participate in department or unit‑specific quality improvement efforts, utilizing research and evidence‑based practice to support improvement.
  • Demonstrate accountability for professional development, participating in shared governance and supporting quality improvement and change initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Minimum six months of experience; BSN preferred.
  • Ability to establish a positive, caring relationship with executives, managers, physicians, and staff.
  • Strong clinical judgment and critical thinking skills.
  • Mobility, visual manual dexterity, and physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances

NIH certification required within 6 months of hire for applicable units; NIH CPR required based on AHA standards and must be completed within 30 days of hire.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • NIH Stroke Scale
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Act 34
  • Current licensure in the state of the facility or an active nursing license under the Multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC).
