Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE: The Executive Dean, Baccalaureate Programs will be responsible for providing leadership and support in the Office of Academic Affairs as part of the educational environment of Lone Star College and community. Serves as managing officer for bachelor's degree programs, including the educator preparation program (EPP), and Corporate College within Lone Star College, and provides positive leadership regarding academic personnel, curricular, and budgetary decisions that further the academic, programmatic, and scholarly mission of the institution in its service to the community.

Such leadership includes the processes of academic personnel policy, participation in budgetary allocations, determination of academic standards and benchmarks, and the acquisition, retention, or release of academic programs.

Essential Job Functions
  • Leads baccalaureate programs through planning, development, implementation, student recruiting, and evaluation
  • Builds processes in the department and proactively collaborates with other LSC divisions, VPIs, and Deans to ensure students are effectively served and supported
  • Leads course scheduling focused on student success and completion, development of appropriate admission/application processes in partnership with BSN Executive Director and baccalaureate program chairs and executive directors, and design of interventions/academic support innovations for student persistence to completion
  • Ensures that the department offers programs that allow for student success; this includes benchmarks through data‑informed decisions, developing accountability, and ensuring SACSCOC, Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, and Texas Education Agency requirements are met
  • Provides leadership for the marketing of baccalaureate programs, the EPP, and Corporate College
  • Guides the department in keeping up‑to‑date on the latest trends in instructional methods, technology, online learning, and effective pedagogies for learning and ensures that these trends are built into the long‑range plan for the department
  • Regularly analyzes and provides evaluation of instructional areas and services; fosters a culture of continuous improvement to ensure curriculum, services, and instructional integrity
  • Develops and implements faculty and staff professional growth plans that leverage employee talent to achieve LSC goals; oversees the recruitment, hiring, evaluation, and retention of qualified faculty and staff; resolves personnel issues and student issues as needed and develops and maintains effective channels of communication
