Job Description Primary Purpose

Work with elementary students to develop prosocial behavioral competencies and skills to achieve school success.

Work hours and Compensation
  • 30 hours per week, from 8 AM to 2 PM, following the MISD instructional calendar. Any potential overtime must be approved in advance by the supervisor.
  • Pay rate: $35 per hour.
  • Funds: grant‑funded pending further grant availability and program success.
  • Other: eligible for benefits if the employee works more than 10 hours per week and is TRS eligible.
Essential Functions Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Apply specialized knowledge and skills to assist students in developing prosocial behaviors.
  • Work individually and in small groups to provide positive behavior support and direct instruction in prosocial skills.
  • Provide students with individual coaching and support using restorative practices to help them navigate and resolve conflicts.
  • Support healthy co‑regulation through your own practice of calm alertness, self‑discipline, and emotional control under stress.
  • Consult with and support campus staff including administrators, counselors, and teachers as they respond to parent and student needs.
  • Collect data to assist in developing appropriate behavior interventions.
  • Work with the campus nurse, counselor, or other staff to refer students and parents to appropriate school‑based services and community resource providers as needed.
  • Coordinate with special populations as needed as well as the student’s teachers to assist students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Instructional Strategies
  • Plan and use appropriate instruction and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflects understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned. Consult as requested with teachers regarding planned instruction differentiation, accommodations, or other student supports.
  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, Board policies and administrative regulations, and teachers’ instructions.
  • Use technology to strengthen the learning process.
Communication
  • Establish and maintain professional communication with parents, students, principals, counselors, nurses, staff, and teachers.
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  • Maintain confidentiality as appropriate.
Professional Growth and Development
  • Attend professional training as required.
  • Keep informed of and comply with state, District and school regulations and policies.
  • Compile, maintain and file all physical and digital reports, records and other documents as required.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

  • Tools/Equipment Used:
    Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment.
  • Posture:
    Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.

    Frequent walking, climbing stairs, and driving.
  • Lifting:
    Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds).
  • Environment: varied environmental settings (school and student homes and apartments), indoor and outdoor spaces, regular exposure to noise.
  • Mental Demands:
    Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours.
Evaluation

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board Policy on Evaluations.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Experience

Professional experience in the school setting (preferred)

Requirements Education/Certification
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Education, Counseling, Social Work, Human Services, or a closely related field (preferred)
  • Have 9 hours or more in master’s level coursework from an accredited college or university with a major in Education, Counseling, Social Work, Human Services, or a closely related field (preferred)
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate (preferred)
