SKILLS:
Minimum 4 years of experience in system safety engineering or related fields (systems engineering, software safety, electrical or mechanical engineering with safety focus).
Strong knowledge of MIL-STD-882 Experience in proposal development, budget management, and resource planning.
Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor small teams, including coaching junior engineers.
Recognized as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) or on the path to SME-level expertise in systems safety.
U.S. citizenship with eligibility for a U.S. government security clearance; active Secret clearance preferred.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience presenting safety findings.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across teams and manage competing priorities.
Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM)
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with DoD System Safety Programs and familiarity with military safety standards.
Background in software safety (e.g., DO-178) or mechanical/electrical systems safety analysis.
Experience managing safety documentation and participating in safety working groups.
Advanced degree in STEM disciplines is a plus. Responsibilities:
Conduct safety analyses, including Functional Hazard Assessments (FHA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), and Hazard Tracking Logs (HTLs).
Review and analyze mechanical, electrical, and software designs for hazard identification and compliance with safety requirements.
Develop safety documentation such as Safety Assessment Reports (SARs), Safety Program Plans (SSPPs), and support safety approval processes.
Collaborate effectively with engineering teams, program management, subcontractors, and government customers to communicate safety risks and mitigation strategies.
Participate in system safety working groups and support technical reviews.
Continuously update knowledge of industry and DoD safety standards and best practices.
