This posting will accept applications until 5:00p.m. on 1/7/2026. The Deputy Sheriff written exam will be held on 1/31/2026.

Only candidates who are available for shift work, including overnight shifts, are eligible to apply for this position - candidates MUST be available to work any shift or work period. Work periods and shifts can vary based on assignment. Candidates must possess and maintain a valid Texas driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
You will not be eligible to take the test until you have a complete, correct application as confirmed by Human Resources. Confirmation will be sent via email as soon as your application is complete.

• Candidates for a Deputy position who have completed the online application and meet the qualifications will be eligible to take the written test established for the position.

• Based on the highest scores received on the test, those who pass will be processed for an eligibility listing.

• The written exam will be scheduled and administered by the Collin County Sheriff’s Office Civil Service Commission.

• Candidates will only be notified by e-mail, following submission of the online application, on whether they qualify for the written exam, and if so, the time and location of the exam.

Collin County is seeking candidates for the position of Deputy Sheriff. A Deputy Sheriff is responsible for, but not limited to, enforce federal, state and local law by serving legal documents, patrolling assigned areas, apprehending suspects and making arrests, responding to service calls, and making traffic stops.

• High school diploma or GED with one of the following:

  • Thirty (30) hours of college education from a regionally accredited university or college with a 2.0 or higher overall grade point average;
    OR

  • Two years of active duty U.S. Military service with an Honorable Discharge;
    OR

  • Two years of full-time law enforcement service in the United States as a Police Officer, Jailer, Dispatcher, or Corrections Officer.

• If a candidate without a license is hired, they will attend the first available academy to earn their license. The required license must be earned within one year of employment.

• Enforces federal, state and local law by serving legal documents, patrolling assigned areas, apprehending suspects and making arrests, responding to service calls, and making traffic stops.

• Performs investigations and searches, writes reports and provides court testimony.

• Transports inmates to prison facilities.

• Administers educational programs in various community-oriented programs.

• Coordinates emergency mental health commitments.

• May perform other duties as assigned.

• Functions may vary by individual assignment.

The Sheriff’s Office requires you to present these documents to the background investigators on the day of the exam.

If you are not able to supply these required documents, you will not be considered for the position. Copies of the following documents are required during the background check process for Deputy Sheriff:

• Current, unexpired Texas Driver's License

• Birth Certificate (original or original copy)

• High School Diploma, Transcript, or GED (original or original copy)

• Transcript(s) from all colleges attended (original or original copy)

• Military-DD214 (if applicable)

• United States citizenship documents if not born in the United States

Applicants for the Deputy Sheriff position will proceed through a series of tests based on passing scores and rankings.
