Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Certification in central sterile processing
- Firm understanding of sterilization and high‑level disinfection technologies
- Minimum of 2 years prior experience in instrument processing
- BCLS certification at time of hire
Responsibilities
- Ability to set priorities
- Ability to communicate well with coworkers
- Ability to organize and remain compliant with maintenance logs and schedules for equipment
- Track, trend, and report damaged instruments
- Maintain compliance with AAMI and TJC standards for CSPD
- Ensures properly prepared instrumentation on a daily basis and in an organized and timely manner
- Adheres to all policies and procedures
- Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and competence of designated skills identified for position
- Completes competencies and competency checklists for ongoing education and training
- Demonstrates knowledge of current standards and best practices as they relate to CSPD
- Cleans and/or disinfects instruments and equipment after use and returns it to the proper area, in appropriate sequence, for storage and/or processing when applicable
- Differentiates sterilization and disinfection methods required for specific instruments and equipment
- Demonstrates ability to understand and use sterilizers, high‑level disinfectors, instrument washers, ultrasonic cleaners and other designated processors
- Completes all documentation to ensure the availability of accurate and up to date information in accordance with established standards
- Cleans, disinfects, packages, and sterilizes instruments and equipment and maintains the functions of the instrument processing area/department
- Maintains area/department in an orderly/organized fashion
- Adheres to established facility safety requirements and procedures to ensure a safe working environment. Consistently dons appropriate PPE
- Follows established facility policies and procedures with regard to attendance
- Performs all other duties as assigned by manager
