Laboratory Technician II

Lab Tech 2 – Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Mc Kinney

Department: Laboratory

Shift: 7on/7off – 1 am to 11:30 am

Location: McKinney, TX

The Lab Tech 2 receives and/or processes specimens, performs clerical checks and support functions, and may perform phlebotomy.

• Conduct routine laboratory procedures where the range of possible errors is limited.
• Sort, label, and record patient specimens. Set up specimen, material and equipment in preparation for Medical Technologist to perform tests.
• Operate centrifuge, simplex timers, cell washer and other laboratory equipment to complete assigned duties.
• Maintain appropriate inventory of supplies.
• Maintain effective communication and working relationships with all laboratory personnel, other disciplines, and external customers.
• Participate in laboratory projects and educational activities.

• Phlebotomy skill for all age groups.
• Ability to comprehend and communicate instructions.
• Skill in the use of computers and related software applications.
• Knowledge of safety and infection control standards.
• Ability to work in a team environment.

• Education: High School Diploma/GED Equivalent.
• Experience: Preferred Certified, more than 2 years hospital experience and specimen processing.

Preferred Experience: Previous phlebotomy and specimen processing experience in a hospital setting.
