Overview

This position reports directly to the Program Administrator for SUD services and operates under the clinical supervision of a certified Peer Specialist Supervisor (PSS). The Recovery Coach works closely with the OSAR team, community resources, and contracted substance use treatment providers to provide in‑person, virtual, telephone, and community‑based services. The role includes individual and group sessions, transportation assistance, barrier identification (housing, food insecurity, employment, mental health, legal issues), trauma‑informed and person‑centered service delivery, flexible scheduling, and meticulous documentation via EHR and the CMBHS system as required by HHSC.

The Recovery Coach also tracks and documents financial assistance, reports required measures per contract, and participates in stewardship of workforce and agency resources.

Responsibilities

• Provide daily in‑person, telehealth, or telephonic contact for clients enrolled in recovery support services.

• Facilitate individual sessions, recovery support groups, and community‑based services tailored to client caseload and individual needs.

• Complete assessment and recovery plan at enrollment and schedule 6‑month follow‑up assessments within contract time frames.

• Establish linkages with the OSAR team, treatment providers, Texas Workforce Commission, other recovery support organizations, community organizations, and other sources of support, conducting outreach and engagement.

• Attend community events to promote recovery support services and build community partnerships.

• Enroll individuals in long‑term coaching when appropriate and maintain documentation and 48‑hour completion of service records.

• Meet at least once per month with the Peer Support Supervisor (PSS). Direct services constitute a minimum of half of work time.

Specific Targets

The Recovery Coach will provide in‑person, telehealth, or telephonic daily contact for individuals enrolled in recovery support services. The Recovery Coach will facilitate individual sessions, recovery support groups, and community‑based services to individuals on their caseload. Frequency of sessions will be based on individual need, and the Recovery Coach will be required to complete an assessment and recovery plan at the time of enrollment to identify the needs of the individual.

The Recovery Coach will establish effective linkages with the OSAR team, substance use treatment providers, Texas Workforce Commission, other recovery support organizations, community‑based organizations, and other sources of support within the Community by doing outreach and engagement with these entities. The Recovery Coach will attend community events to ensure information about recovery support services is available to community entities and to build those community partnerships.

The Recovery Coach will enroll individuals in long‑term coaching when the individual shows a need and willingness to participate in recovery support on a long‑term basis. The Recovery Coach will keep track of documentation requirements and ensure 6‑month follow‑up assessments required by the contract are completed within the given timeframe. The Recovery Coach will follow SAMHSAs guidance on recovery and supports outlined in SAMHSAs Working Definition of Recovery and obtain guidance in peer supervision if necessary.

The Recovery Coach will meet at a minimum once per month with the Peer Support Supervisor (PSS). Direct services are expected to be, at minimum, half of work time; documentation is to be completed within 48 hours of service.
