JOB SUMMARY
The Lab Technician provides information for patient diagnosis and treatment by performing laboratory tests in toxicology, chemistry, hematology, immunology, and microbiology laboratories; receiving, typing, testing, and recording blood bank inventories.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Keep the laboratory and all equipment clean
  • Prepare the laboratory equipment and specimens for tests
  • Collect patient’s body fluids for lab test and analysis
  • Analyze and record test results in order to issue reports that utilize graphs, charts, and narratives
  • Perform blood counts and blood tests for transfusion purposes
  • Assist medical laboratory technologists in less complex laboratory tests and procedures
  • Prioritize tasks to successfully handle targeted workload with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Assist with accreditation inspections
JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • High School Graduate
  • Minimum one year direct experience in a clinical lab setting (molecular diagnosis strongly preferred)
  • Certified Medical Laboratory Technician by the ASCP or by the National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel
KNOWLEDGE,

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of chemistry techniques, laboratory best practices and safety management techniques, FDA Health Regulations, Infection Control, and Clinical Lab Testing
  • Detailed documentation and analytical skills
  • Computer skills- proficient in Microsoft office and EHR management in a laboratory information system
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English. Additional languages preferred
  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner-- able to counsel/teach customers, train co-workers, and positively contribute to marketing/public relations. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from patients, regulatory agencies, or members of the medical and business community
HOURS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Our laboratory is located in Tampa, FL at our Fletcher location. The job will be Monday thru Friday. Work hours may be subject to change.

Hazards:
Occasional contact with communicable diseases, electrical equipment, blood borne pathogens, etc.
Personal protective equipment:
Provided if necessary (gowns, gloves, masks, head cover)
