Position: Parks Maintenance Technician I - II - III

Overview

Park Maintenance Technician I - II - III position for the City of McKinney. Under the direct supervision of the Parks Supervisor, the role maintains City parks, grounds, facilities, and amenities. Work is performed primarily at parks and athletic fields in upkeep and maintenance of City property. This is a manual-level position requiring dexterity with hand tools and equipment, and the ability to work in adverse environmental conditions.

Depending on experience, licenses, and skills, the position can be filled at Level I, II, or III.

Essential Functions / Responsibilities
  • Performs a variety of general duties related to the maintenance, upkeep, construction, installation, and repair of City parks, grounds, trails, athletic fields, recreation facilities, buildings, and other City-owned landscaped areas.
  • Operates equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of City parks, street trees, landscaping, facilities.
  • Performs grounds maintenance including mowing, weed-eating, edging, blowing, pruning, planting, trimming and sodding.
  • Performs regular and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment.
  • Cleans and disposes of debris from City and municipal properties.
  • Assists in preparations for and clean-up during and after special events.
  • Performs maintenance, minor repairs and adjustments to irrigation systems; assists with minor plumbing and irrigation work as needed.
Job Levels
  • Parks Maintenance Technician I – Performs duties across general maintenance tasks and basic equipment operation within established guidelines.
  • Parks Maintenance Technician II – Carries over Level I duties and adds complex irrigation maintenance, minor plumbing and irrigation work, and operation/maintenance of more advanced equipment.
  • Parks Maintenance Technician III – Carries over Level I & II duties and adds complex irrigation maintenance, system checks, equipment operation for athletic fields, painting/maintenance of municipal properties, fertilizer application, minor electrical and plumbing work, and tree/landscape maintenance tasks.

Conditions of Employment
  • Must pass a drug screen and background check.
  • Must have Class C Texas Driver’s License.
  • Ability to obtain Pesticide Applicator's License within 6 months of hire.
  • Must be available for rotating schedules that include weekends and evenings.
Physical Demands / Work Environment
  • Physical demands involve heavy physical effort, with lifting of 20-50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally; climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, and repetitive movements.
  • Exposure to extreme weather, odors, dust, pollen, and chemicals may occur.
