Job Description

Collin County is seeking candidates for the position of Building Maintenance Tech II – Licensed Plumber. This role is ideal for a hands‑on professional with strong plumbing expertise and commitment to maintaining safe, efficient, and functional county buildings.

The Building Maintenance Tech II – Licensed Plumber is responsible for, but not limited to, conducting inspections, performing repairs, and supporting renovations across a variety of County structures, with a primary focus on plumbing systems including water, sewer, boilers and heaters. This position is located within the Collin County Facilities Department. Work is performed under the direction of a Facilities Technical Coordinator.

Primary

Functions
  • Assembling, installing, maintaining and pressure testing all pipes, fittings and fixtures, determining sources of plumbing malfunctions and completing repairs according to work orders.

  • Inspecting and repairing plumbing systems such as repairing pipes, fittings, valves, fixtures and plumbing and sewer system equipment, including sinks, commodes, water heaters, and boilers.

  • Installing support and hangers for pipe, fixtures and equipment.

  • Reading blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine the layout of plumbing systems, water supply networks and waste drainage systems.

  • Detecting necessary repairs on buildings, grounds and equipment and conducting necessary repairs.

  • Responding to emergency calls, as needed.

  • Performing general building maintenance and mechanical repairs.

  • Assisting with renovations and remodeling of county facilities.

  • Ensuring compliance with local plumbing codes and safety standards.

  • Collaborate with the Facilities Technical Coordinator and other team members.

  • Maintaining accurate records of work performed and materials used.

  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have:

  • Knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes.

  • Knowledge of plumbing codes, ordinances, and safety in the plumbing trade.

  • At least six months of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency.

  • At least two (2) years of experience in building maintenance and four (4) years of plumbing work.

  • Journeyman Plumber License is required.

  • A valid Texas Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.

  • General electrical knowledge, especially related to flush valves and electronic fixtures.

  • Proficiency in routine building maintenance tasks.
