The User Research Analyst conducts interviews, surveys, and user testing to identify mission user needs and translate them into clear user stories and technical requirements. The role partners with product and engineering teams to guide the design of AI and Computer Vision tools and support user adoption.
Responsibilities- Proactively identify and build a roster of users of imagery in the Sponsor office
- Conduct survey and interview-based research with users of imagery to
1) identify user needs and
2) work with the team to translate those needs into product opportunities to inform the development of a user-facing Computer Vision tool. - Identify trends and behaviors among users of imagery, and create customer profiles and user stories based on the results of research.
- Identify potential users of a Computer Vision-based capability and work with the computer vision team and other mission partners to develop strategies for reaching these users.
- Conduct tests of prototype capabilities with customers in order to build out technical requirements that will be implemented into capabilities under development.
- Conduct user research for a range of AI-based capabilities under development by the team.
- Design and conduct research projects as directed.
- Understand business objectives and develop models that help to achieve them.
- Develop metrics to track progress.
- Communicate project progress including any obstacles and develop strategies to overcome them.
- Demonstrated experience conducting qualitative and quantitative user research, including:
- Moderated user interviews
- Survey generation
- Development of customer personas
- Experience writing user stories
- Demonstrated experience writing technical requirements based on user needs
- Experience working with business and technical teams to ensure that insights gained from user research are implemented in the design of user-facing systems.
- Demonstrated experience in user testing, including but not limited to, expertise in Human Factors or Human‑Computer Interactions (HCI).
- Experience working with artificial intelligence, computer vision, or overhead satellite imagery, including use cases for satellite imagery.
- Experience working with start‑ups to identify market opportunities for novel capabilities.

The successful candidate's starting pay will fall within the salary range provided below and is determined based on job‑related factors, including, but not limited to, the experience, qualifications, knowledge, skills, geographic work location, and market conditions. Candidates with the minimum necessary experience, qualifications, knowledge, and skillsets for the position should not expect to receive the upper end of the pay range.
Base pay for this position within the Washington, DC metropolitan area is: $99,000 – $165,000 annually.
