Product Design Director, Travel Verticals – Capital One

We’re currently seeking a Product Design Director to lead our Travel Verticals team, part of the Experience Design organization. The Premium Design team sets the bar for Capital One’s high‑spender customer experience ecosystem, revolving around highly useful, personalized, and high‑stakes products. Since its launch in 2021, Capital One Travel has been on a trajectory of monumental growth and aims to grow into one of the largest OTAs.

This role will drive a differentiated vision and lead teams to craft exceptional end‑to‑end experiences across existing travel funnels (Flights, Stays, etc.) and strategy for funnel expansion, including Business Travel and Luxury travel experiences.

Role Expectations

As a Director of Travel Verticals, you’ll lead a talented, cross‑disciplinary team of designers and collaborate deeply with research, product, and tech leadership. You’ll be responsible for leading high‑impact, highly complex projects and defining and driving a design strategy that aligns with business objectives.

• Product Design Expertise:
Leverage expertise across interaction, visual and service design to enhance design practice and deliver artifacts such as vision stories, journey maps, blueprints, high‑fidelity designs and prototypes.

Create a positive and inclusive environment and set a vision for an inclusive, collaborative culture.

Champion voices of customers and partners, ensuring business and customer outcomes align.

Demonstrate expert knowledge of products, processes, customers and competitors to drive design solutions.

Basic Qualifications

• At least 8 years of experience in product design role

• At least 3 years of experience leading design teams

Preferred Qualifications

• At least 10 years of experience in product design role

• At least 5 years of experience leading design teams

Experience with a design toolkit spanning product, service, strategy and content design

• Experience leading multi‑disciplinary product design teams from strategy to delivery

• Experience partnering with product managers, engineers, marketing and analytics across multiple business lines to shape strategy, OKRs and roadmaps

• Experience working within a design system

• Proficiency with web and mobile technologies, navigating tech considerations to drive product decisions

• Expertise with design and prototyping tools such as Figma

• Experience managing interdisciplinary design teams

• Proficiency in business case development grounding decisions to business value

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

• Exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills across organization

• Exceptional people management and development skills

Salary ranges by location:
McLean, VA: $226,000‑$257,900;
New York, NY: $246,500‑$281,300; other locations per standard ranges.
