Position Overview

As an Assistant Store Manager at Sur La Table, you play a key role in the success of the store by assisting a high-performing retail team that inspires customers throughout every stage of their culinary experience. The role helps cultivate a positive store culture focused on #bestincenter service, a company-wide standard for excellence in service.

Key Responsibilities Leadership & Team Development
  • Supports the recruitment, training, and ongoing development of a high-performing team to meet the business needs of both culinary and retail.
  • Provides coaching and feedback to ensure team members deliver outstanding customer experience.
  • Assists in development plans to support individual and team growth.
Customer Experience & Brand Representation
  • Represents Sur La Table’s brand and culture by creating memorable, educational experiences that inspire repeat visits and customer loyalty.
  • Maintains expertise by staying current on products, actively engaging in training, and independently seeking out additional resources.
  • Ensures exceptional customer experience by leading a customer-focused, Guest Obsessed culture.
  • Addresses customer concerns and resolves issues in a timely manner to maintain satisfaction and loyalty.
Sales & Business Performance
  • Partners with the General/Store Manager in developing and implementing strategies, including effective merchandising, marketing, and customer engagement, to exceed sales and financial goals across culinary and retail operations.
  • Analyzes daily performance metrics, applies insights to drive results, and leads follow-ups with the team to ensure execution.
  • Consistently meets or exceeds monthly sales goals, contributing to overall store revenue. Performance is measured by key KPIs such as individual sales volume, average transaction value, and customer conversion rates.
Operations & Compliance
  • Assists with daily store operations, ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Maintains accurate inventory levels, minimizes shrink, and ensures proper product merchandising.
  • Ensures store safety and cleanliness, addressing any maintenance needs promptly.
  • Assists with maintaining the accuracy and integrity of associate records, including time and attendance data, food safety certifications, and personal information.
  • Adheres to applicable wage and hour laws, accurately recording time worked according to SLT Policy.
  • Models and ensures all Sur La Table policies and SOPs are communicated effectively to associates, maintained and consistently followed.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to communicate verbally and work cooperatively with associates and customers.
  • Ability to remain standing for up to 5 hours at a time.
  • Ability to move about the store coaching and directing associates; selling to customers and retrieving merchandise from stockroom or sales floor.
  • Ability to grab, reach, push, pull, bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch to retrieve and replenish merchandise from stockroom or sales floor.
  • Ability to lift and/or move merchandise weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to ascend/descend ladders to retrieve and/or move merchandise.
  • Ability to operate a computer, POS system, keyboards, merchandise scanners, and mouse to accomplish work.
  • Workweeks are expected to be between 36 and 40 hours with the ability to have a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of employment.
  • 1-2 years of retail management experience, preferably in a specialty or culinary retail environment.
