Responsibilities
- Telecom Technician 3 is responsible for the Installation, Planning, Organizing and Scheduling of communications cabling and equipment to complete assigned work orders.
- Monitors task completion, compliance and prevents safety issues in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards.
- Oversees a crew of five (5) or more technicians and apprentices.
- Has experience installing equipment using hand tools and power tools, a working understanding of Telecom Systems, blueprints and knowledge of codes and standards; each technician must strive to become a qualified BICSI Technician.
- Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and follow Safety Policies and Procedures.
- Actively participates in Daily Safety and Work briefings.
- Install various types of Low Voltage Cable.
- Install, inspect, terminate, test, and troubleshoot ISP/OSP telecommunications systems (Fiber Optics, Category 5, 6, 6A, and associated equipment such as pathways, cable trays, cabinets, racks, telecommunications devices, prefabricated components and assemblies, and grounding systems).
- Survey and document existing telecommunications infrastructure such as copper and fiber cables, active and passive components using electronic devices.
- Sketch rack elevations, floor, and wall elevations.
- Participate in design document reviews and activities to ensure timely, cost‑effective, and quality project outcomes.
- Install, power up and connect fiber uplinks of network equipment into a telecommunications cabinet/rack.
- Calculate grounding conductor, conduit sizing and raceways layouts.
- Produce 4‑week look‑ahead plans to include productivity planning for assigned scopes of work, material procurement/staging and tracking weekly productivity to plans.
- Train and supervise apprentices in a team environment to facilitate installing cable from Telecommunication Rooms (TR) to work area outlets (WAO). Follow drawings and run lists to ensure cables are installed methodically and arranged in proper bundles at TR for ease of dressing and termination.
- Maintain accurate as‑built drawings; update and log onto master record contract drawings at least once a week.
- Perform quality assurance checks of the team’s work ensuring cable installation is performed within all applicable requirements.
- Maintain a clean work area and participate in job site clean‑up.
- Secure company tools and materials daily.
- Up to 50% travel which may include domestic and/or international.
Qualifications
- 6+ years prior experience in the commercial communications industry.
- Over 18 years of age.
- High School diploma or GED is required.
- Excellent safety record, a valid driver’s license, and clean driving record in order to operate a company‑owned vehicle.
- Successfully pass a background check and drug test.
- Reliable transportation to and from the jobsite.
- Ability to pass basic telecommunications knowledge test.
- Demonstrated experience and ability to read and understand plans and specifications.
- Strong communications, time‑management and organization skills to meet deadlines and quality objectives.
