Temporary Elementary Behavior Program Teacher - Self Contained SY)
Salary Range: Licensed Salary Schedule (Please note that this position is 190 days with 5 paid holidays, paid sick leave and paid flexible personal leave (3 days per year). If hired after the start of the school year, days and leave are pro‑rated. Reports to: Director of Student Services or designee
Job Summary: To implement the IEP for identified students who demonstrate severe emotional and behavioral problems which significantly interfere with their educational programs.
Essential Job Functions (Responsibilities)- Participates in the identification (assessment) and program planning needs for children with severe emotional and behavioral problems.
- Works with school, ESD personnel, parents and outside agencies in developing IEP’s.
- Provides special education for identified students via direct service delivery, teacher consultation, materials adaptation, etc.
- Provides training to education staff (teachers, specialists, assistants, etc.)
- Consults with the regular classroom teacher to ensure that basic academic skills are mastered.
- Conducts annual parent/teacher conferences to revise the IEP.
- Conducts annual parent/teacher conferences to orient parents to classroom procedures that could be reinforced and extended to the home.
- Provides an appropriate learning environment to facilitate eventual re‑integration into the regular classroom.
- Complies with specifications established by I.D.E.A.
- Provides behavior management programs to control atypical behavior and increase appropriate behavior.
- Serves as a resource to parents of students with disabilities.
- Participates in on‑going professional development (coursework, workshops, professional reading, etc) as it relates to special education.
- Carries out leadership responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Student Services or Special Education Coordinator.
- Maintains records, reports, and documentation as required by District Student Services Programs.
- Performs other tasks as assigned.
- Responsible for being familiar with the school/district policies and procedures which govern the work.
- Prompt and regular attendance is required.
- Assist other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
- Participate in various meetings and professional development activities for the purpose of sharing information and/or improving one's skills/knowledge.
Job Requirements – Qualifications
- Valid Oregon Teaching License with Special Education endorsement.
- Thorough understanding of philosophy and methods relevant to supported education.
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and parents.
- Experience in assessment of and service delivery to students with Individualized Education Plans and I.D.E.A. regulations.
- Demonstrated creativity and resourcefulness in the areas of curriculum modification for special needs students.
- Willingness to work with district personnel in the development of district‑wide supported education projects.
- Experience and willingness to work with severe emotional and behavioral problems.
- Ability to work cooperatively and harmoniously as a team member.
- Ability to plan, organize, and work without close supervision.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with District personnel and the public.
- Maintain confidential information and the privacy of District staff, students, and families.
- Carry out work responsibilities effectively under pressure of deadlines, interruptions, and new or emergency situations.
- Ability to work with a diverse population.
- Ability to respect confidential information.
- Computer skills to include use of word processing programs, database programs and the Google Suite of products.
