Willamette Valley Medical Center Unit Clerk

Job Type: Full-time Monday - Friday

Position Summary

Performs a variety of tasks requiring prioritization and discretion. Greets patients, visitors and others and provides information to them. Participates in ensuring patient's comfort and personal care activities. May performs variety of clinic activities such as scheduling, insurance verification, balancing of co-pay money and balancing of daily or weekly deposits. Interfaces with physicians and other staff on a regular basis. May do limited coding and/or charge entry.

ε Responsibilities and Duties
  • Assists in ensuring flow of information between DON, nurse manager, nurse supervisor, nurses, PCAs and CNAs through verbal and kunne written communication.
  • Completes chart audits, records data, creates reports, and tracks deficiencies accurately.
  • Assists the RN, Nurse Manager and DON is assigned tasks in a timely manner.
  • Answers telephone and provides information or relays messages to patients and staff, overhead pages and operates the doors. Completes filing.
  • Ensuring copies and forms are available. Stocks supplies.
  • Records patient information, prepares medical charts for new patients, maintains medical charts on existing patients and prepares medical charts for the Medical Records department on discharged patients.
  • Notifies Business Office and Care Coordination of all discharges in a timely manner.
  • Monitors and ensures patient safety. Reports all equipment failures and repairs. Reports safety concerns to the designated staff member.
  • Ensures a clean environment. Organizes the nurse's station and maintains its efficiency.
  • Provides back up for unit staff by conducting such activities as safety checks, belonging inventories, and escorting patients.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education:

    High school degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience:

    Previous experience on an inpatient unit preferred. Must have experience with clerical duties.
  • License:
    Valid driver’s license.
  • Additional Requirements:

    CPR certification and Crisis Prevention Training (CPI) within 30 days of employment and prior to any patient contact.
  • May be required to work flexible hours and overtime.
