Join Akumin® as a Patient Coordinator. In this role you will perform a variety of customer service and patient care tasks to ensure a positive patient experience, maintain accurate documentation, and explain procedures and expectations to patients.
Responsibilities- Greet patients, customers, and visitors in person and over the phone.
- Perform patient registration in various systems.
- Answer all phone calls in a professional and courteous.rename.
- Collect monies for time‑of‑service patient responsibility.
- Verify insurance coverage and obtain prior authorization.
- Assist preliminary screening of patients prior to procedures, including medical history.
- Transport patients to/from the exam room and assist in patient transfer on/off the exam table.
- Provide patients with preliminary and post‑procedure instructions.
- Maintain a clean, organized and properly stocked mobile unit or work area.
- Prepare, schedule and update patient records and appointments; verify insurance and obtain authorizations.
- Prepare and deliver medical records, images and documentation to patients, physicians or contracted customers.
- Perform all duties in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or equivalent experience required.
- CPR certification required for Mobile Radiology and Oncology; a plus for Fixed Radiology.
- Valid state driver’s license required.
- Ability to work at several locations.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Organizational and multi‑tasking skills.
- Basic knowledge of computer applications and programs.
- Local travel may be required to support multiple sites.
- COVID‑19 vaccination may be a condition of employment.
- All candidates must successfully complete a pre‑employment background check and drug screen.
- Six months of customer service or related experience and/or training.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Bilingual in Spanish.
May be exposed to outside weather conditions during transport of patients on a mobile unit, strong magnetic fields or radioactive material, blood/body fluids, infectious disease, environmental hazards, and noise. Must be able to:
- Sit, stand, walk, and perform repetitive movements of hands, arms and legs.
- See, speak and hear to communicate with patients.
- Stoop, kneel, crawl, climb, balance, carry and lift (ability to move non‑ambulatory patients from a sitting or lying position for transfer to the exam).
