About the Role
Smart Electrician jobs are in demand and offer a long‑term career in emerging smart electrical systems, lighting controls, IoT, and advanced technology installations. This position works with premier companies that specialize in smart line voltage electrical systems for commercial buildings across the United States.
Responsibilities- Install, service, and maintain smart line voltage electrical systems, including structured cabling and integration with lighting control systems, security, fire, access control, and networking equipment.
- Pull, label, dress, terminate various cabling types such as Romex, MC, service cable, cat5, cat6, fiber, coax, AV wire, fire alarm, and security & access‑control cable.
- Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot smart lighting control panels and other associated technologies in accordance with industry standards.
- Provide system testing and documentation for all installations.
- Install telecommunications equipment, switches, routers, and build support structures such as ladder racks and cable trays while following safety and industry standards.
- Read blueprints, coordinate with other contractors, and perform work efficiently while often working alone in tight spaces.
- High school diploma or GED and a valid driver’s license.
- Fundamental knowledge of electrical systems and strong computer skills.
- Possession of an Oregon electrical license (OR‑J or OR‑S) is preferred; otherwise, meet basic apprenticeship educational requirements.
- Additional certifications and education are a plus, such as bachelor’s or associate degrees in Electrical Engineering, IT, or Computer Networking; CNCI certification; BICSI or NFPA training.
- Knowledge of EIA/TIA standards and basic blueprint reading.
- Familiarity with OSHA safety standards.
- Strong planning, organization, and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication for interacting with team members, clients, and management.
- Willingness to travel to remote job sites and possession of a valid driver’s license.
The average annual compensation in Oregon and southwestern Washington is $120,720. Hourly rates range from $48 to $68 depending on experience for regulated rates.
Training & GrowthApprenticeships are available at 50% of the regulated rate. Experienced technicians have the opportunity to progress to senior roles such as Foreman, Project Manager, or Operations Manager.
