Position Summary
Associate Instructor – Welding at Tennessee Board of Regents (T )
Full‑time exempt position located at TCAT – McMinnville, Coffee County Industrial Service Center, 91 Volunteer Pkwy, Manchester, TN 37355.
Hours:
7:00 am–3:00 pm, Monday through Friday, or as needed to fulfill duties.
Salary: $50,894 – $61,074.
Minimum Qualifications- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Certificate or diploma in instructional area or equivalent training with credentials in related field
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in the welding field within the last five (5) years
- Ability to teach GMAW (MIG), GTAW/TIG, SMAW (STICK), oxyacetylene fusion, flux core welding, flame cutting, brazing, soldering
- Experience in higher education
- Ability to establish and maintain relationships with multiple local businesses, employers, industry, workforce development agencies, secondary and post‑secondary institutions
- Monitor and evaluate student progress, attendance, and grades; complete and submit required reports in a timely manner
- Apply a multi‑method approach to enhance student understanding of materials, including demonstrations, lectures, hands‑on activities and experience in live works to provide knowledge to gain employment in the welding industry
- Determine teaching methods best suited to student needs, interests, and abilities
- Develop accurate and objective standards to measure learning or administer testing or other evaluations to determine effectiveness and ensure a high level of comprehension has been achieved
- Teach all courses within the Welding curriculum
- Maintain student records for grades and attendance and enter into Banner system
- Build and maintain relationships with area employers to facilitate the referral and employment of career and technical students
- Cooperate with outside agencies, work with program advisory committees, conduct visits to business and industry; establish and maintain good public relations
- Work in cooperation with other departments and the community to enhance employment opportunities for students
- Conduct surveys, and maintain records and reports of program graduates
- Communicate effectively in a professional, tactful and courteous manner with students, employees, faculty, and the general public
- Ensure that all activities are conducted within FERPA guidelines
- Perform assigned responsibilities, duties, and tasks according to established practices, procedures, techniques, and standards in a safe manner and with minimal supervision
- Hold program advisory board meetings once a year and maintain meeting minutes
- Participate in professional development and growth annually
- Assist with student placement and follow‑up information; assist with student recruitment; perform other duties as assigned
- Familiarity with blueprint reading, welding symbols, metallurgy, fitting and fabrication
- Commitment to utilizing technology in teaching/learning and staying up to date in developing instructional technologies
- Commitment to maintaining program accreditation(s)
- Strong customer service skills; effective oral and written communication skills
- Ability to utilize Microsoft Office programs, audio/visual equipment, and software
- Ability to multitask with good organization and planning
- Possess a valid Tennessee driver’s license
- Willing to travel as needed
Walking, climbing, bending and stooping. Work performed in office, testing center and classroom environments. Position requires the use of a computer. Sedentary work—walking or standing to a significant degree; sitting for brief periods of time; ability to bend and stoop; use body members (arms, hands, fingers).
Background Check and CertificationBackground checks will be completed on all new hires. Instructors will be asked to sign a background release authorizing TCAT – McMinnville to complete a background check which will include the following:
Sex Offender Registry, County Criminal & Federal Criminal.
