AR Manager

Job Summary:

Responsible for day‑to‑day operations and functions of the Medical Billing and Posting teams. Provides the necessary support and leadership to achieve department goals and objectives. Oversees the billing and collections of patient accounts, compliance with third‑party payer regulations, cash posting, employee productivity and ongoing improvement to key revenue cycle indicators including: AR days, cash collections goals and posting, bad debt, denials, underpayment recovery and contract management.

Essential Accountabilities
  • Manage daily late‑stage revenue cycle operations, including claims submission, denial management, cash and insurance payment posting, A/R management, insurance reimbursement, ACH/EFT payer enrollment, and contract management.
  • Develop techniques for effective analysis and auditing of billing and collections activities. Review statistical reports to monitor trends, determine operational inefficiencies, and implement corrective action plans as necessary.
  • Assist in the development of strategies to meet cash projections, A/R days goals, and reduce denials.
  • Assist in the hiring and training of new billing and posting staff, department budgets, quality measures, and/or regulatory compliance.
  • Carry out performance evaluation of personnel and recommend necessary actions.
  • Review documentation for accurate charging, billing, clean claim generation, and proper payment posting in accordance with payer remittance advice files.
  • Verify insurance payments against payer contract reimbursement terms for underpayments.
  • Collaborate with Revenue Cycle, clinical, and ancillary teams to foster strong working relationships and effectively communicate improvement opportunities.
  • Monitors and researches upcoming changes to billing codes or payor policies and effectively communicates updates to revenue cycle, clinical, and ancillary teams as necessary.
  • Ensure teams are in compliance with state and federal law, compliance law, HIPAA, and other agency regulations as instructed.
  • Attend in-service training programs, department meetings, workshops and seminars.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Teach, motivate, and inspire staff and co‑workers.
  • Ensure department meets goals on satisfaction surveys, days in A/R, and other various revenue key performance indicators.
Qualifications
  • Education/Licensure/

    Certifications:

    Bachelors of Science Degree in Management, Finance, or Accounting.
  • Experience:

    Five years of related healthcare experience. Insurance, accounts receivable, and/or coding background preferred.
  • Skills:

    Ability to read, analyze and interpret common healthcare regulations, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Skills:

    Ability to calculate figures and amounts as related to patient accounts, discounts, insurance payments, etc.
  • Skills:

    Ability to accomplish multiple tasks in a timely, accurate manner with good oral and written communication.
  • Skills:

    Electronic Health Record software usage.
  • Skills:

    Computer knowledge:
    Word, Excel, Power Point, Publisher, Outlook, etc.
  • Environmental Surroundings:
    No exposure to hazardous working conditions.
  • Physical

    Working Conditions:

    Located in a comfortable indoor area. Sitting for extended periods of time.
