Job Description SummaryThe Manufacturing Project Technician is responsible for ensuring article transitions are on time and at peak levels of quality and efficiency. The role guides advancements through continuous improvement processes and reports progress and technical problems to the project supervisor. The Technician develops, trains, and motivates other team members through knowledge and expertise and executes implementation of work assignments to department standards and quality systems.
The Technician develops cross‑discipline experience and enhances knowledge by working with engineers and other technicians.
- Continually and proactively demonstrates strong leadership through training, motivating and developing other team members.
- Develops and implements training procedures.
- Trains and develops new employees, which may require temporary assignment to other shifts.
- Completes changeover of machines for trial and acceptance runs.
- Monitors machines per control plan to ensure the process is running according to specification.
- Develops set‑up records for each machine and products produced; submits article inspection parts to quality for approval.
- Possesses a high level of knowledge about all processes used throughout the department, including quality testing and reporting, emergency procedures, etc.
- Assembles equipment and tooling for scheduled trial runs.
- Observes machine operation to detect work‑piece defects or machine malfunctions, adjusting and documenting as necessary.
- Possesses some knowledge about all equipment used throughout the manufacturing process, including machinery, auxiliary equipment, tooling, electrical components, controllers, relevant lab equipment, etc.
- Communicates any scheduling concerns with leadership and works to resolve any discrepancies.
- Attends meetings and reports progress on assigned deliverables/tasks.
- Formally communicates project information to Supervisor.
- Assists in presenting project information to managers and directors.
- Suggests equipment and tooling improvements based on project experience and results.
- Drives root‑cause analysis and proper corrective actions.
- Inspects tooling before and after trial or acceptance runs to ensure quality and communicates any issues to the appropriate tooling department, quality, and leadership as needed.
- Performs preventative maintenance on all tooling, including but not limited to: complete teardown, cleaning and greasing, visual and dimensional inspection, and complete assembly.
- Identifies, assesses root cause, communicates and recommends solutions to any tooling wear or damage.
- Maintains documentation on processing and tooling issues.
- Ensures company policies and guidelines are being followed.
- Recommends improvements to policies and procedures aimed at improving efficiency, safety, quality, etc.
- Ensures team members maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Processes and controls any non‑conformance defects with project parts.
- Updates and maintains necessary documentation.
- Ensures a clean and safe work environment.
- Performs the 6S activities (sort, straighten, shine, standardize, sustain and safety) to organize and manage workstations.
- Cleans and maintains the project area, machinery, tooling, etc.
- Helps ensure tooling is put away in the proper location.
- Attends operational and safety meetings as required.
- Performs other duties as required and/or assigned.
- Travels up to 50% of the time.
